One of the hardest things for people to get used to when learning Spanish is the idea that nouns (people, places, animals, things, ideas, and feelings) have a gender (male, female). There is always a question of "How can a table be feminine? and "How can a a book be masculine?" This doesn’t mean that the table or the book is physically feminine or masculine, but in a grammatical sense, the ending is.

That quote is from here.

Hombre is a singular masculine noun. Hombres is a plural masculine noun.

It should be pretty self evident.

I/We Singular/Plural

He/She Masculine/Feminine

In Spanish all nouns have gender, ie. are either feminine or masculine. This is one of the harder concepts for us English speakers. Why should an inanimate object be masculine or feminine? It is a little crazy but it just is.

I am a beginner, I don"t have a clue or where to begin in learning SPANISH, i have started a class in Spanish, but after listening to the instructor for six hour i am as confused as I was when I entered the classroom. Can anyone tell me (What should I be focusing on first ???).

Is this class truly a beginner's class? If so, they should start out with basic things like how Spanish nouns are either masculine, feminine, or sometimes neutral. Good luck. - Winkfish, Apr 18, 2016
