- (Cuan)
I just came across a new word. Can't find anything on it. How is it used and what does it mean? Gracias.

There is a Gospel song "How Great Thou Art" which in Spanish is rendered as How great He is.
Cuán grande es El.
With just the addition of an eighth note you get the meaning of the English version.
Cuán grande eres Tú,

USAGE NOTE
"Cuán" is the shortened form of "cuánto," which is used before adjectives and adverbs.
It is used as an equivalent of how in English, when before an adjective/adverb in a question sense: how big is it, how far away is it, how nice is it, how important is it.....?
I normally use qué tan in these situations, and Pablo has generally accepted that, but he has also accepted the few times I have used cuán. People in Spain seem to much prefer "cómo de"- I haven't practiced with that as much.
Here is a whole thread on the merits of these three, with various native speakers arguing back and forth, and avoiding any of them. It is worth reading in the entirety:

I will quote a specific quote from the link on qué tan, the choice I usually use (but read the whole link):
qué tan(to). Locución adverbial equivalente, según los casos, a cuán(to) o a cómo de, que puede aparecer en oraciones interrogativas o exclamativas, tanto directas como indirectas. Era normal en el español medieval y clásico, y hoy pervive en amplias zonas de América:
Now if you mean cuan, without the accent, it is sort of the same in a non-question form:

It is more of "as (much as)"
An example from our dictionary:
Luciano gritó cuan fuerte pudo. Luciano screamed as loud as he could.
I have never used it.
