There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

1: Las flores brotaron de la tierra fecunda casi de la noche a la mañana.

Flowers sprung up from the fecund soil almost overnight.

The avocado harvest was very fruitful this year.

It is also called 'composta' but I call it 'compost' too ;) - Pablo064, Apr 12, 2016
Around here they just seem to say abono, or estericol, if it is off a muck-heap. Bought in bags they refer to it as ' tierra'. But that is probably very local. - annierats, Apr 12, 2016
Yes annie abono y tierra(vegetal) are very common too more than 'compost/composta' in fact if you use these rwo people would say what? :D - Pablo064, Apr 12, 2016

While one's mind can be rich with creativity another's can be rich with knowledge, both help make young minds fertile.

Mientras una mente puede ser fecundo con la creatividad del otro ,puede ser fecunda con la creatividad, otra puede ser fecunda..ambas ayudan a hacer a las mentes de los jóvenes fecundas

La edad fértil de una mujer es desde su primera regla hasta la menopausia pero la fecunidad es otra cosa y ahora la tasa de fecunidad es mucho mas baja en los países arollados que en los países desarrollados donde una mujer fecunda todavía puede tener unos diez o doce hijos.

The fertile years of a woman are from her first menstruation until the menopause put her fertility is altogether another thing and nowadays the fertility rate is much lower in the developed countries than in the undeveloped ones. In the undeveloped countries a fruitful woman can still bear some ten or twelve children.

Hi anneriats! In the first sentence the subject "years"is plural, so your verb should be "are" not "is." Interestingly in the Spanish sentence the subject is "edad" which is singular, so "es" is correct. - happyquilter, Apr 11, 2016
I know someone here that had 16 kids. Can you imagine? Wow! - rac1, Apr 11, 2016

Debido a que nació la séptima de sus hermanos, la mejor amiga de mi esposa con frecuencia cuenta chistes sobre qué tan fecunda era su madre, pero en el pasado tener muchos hijos era más común que hoy en día.

Because she was born the seventh of her siblings, my wife’s best friend tells jokes about how fertile her mother was, but in the past having a lot of children was more common than nowadays.

Parece que esta perra es muy fecunda. Aunque no creo que esté muy felíz sobre esto. No estaría feliz si yo fuera ella.

It seems that this 'female dog' is very fertile. I don't think she is very happy about it though. I wouldn't be happy if I was her.

Yes, I've had this happen several times, whilst it's quite ok to say 'old cow' for exmple, it is abit of a mystery to me. - annierats, Apr 12, 2016
There must be a way to say it. Maybe separate the letters? The word b i t c h is not bad, the true meaning that is. - rac1, Apr 12, 2016
