Can you give me...?

Can you give me...?

Hey guys.

I was wondering how I should say "Can I have ..." in Spanish. For example, if I want to ask to my teacher, "Can I have the script from the video", Can I just say "Quisiera el guion del video?" or "Me puedes traer el guion del video?. Is there any other way to say this?

Thank you very much for your help. Appreciate it.

Hello Eric:

Can I have = Me pueden/puedes dar/pasar

Can you bring/pass me the...= Me puedes dar/pasar el...

Can you bring me = me puedes traer

Does this help?

Here you most often hear Dar or Prestar used for this. Prestar is used even if there is no intention of return. For example, at dinner there is one tortilla left you might hear: Préstame la última tortilla. Now unless you intend to play frisbee with it you cannot return it (barrring the crude jokes).

"Quisiera el guion del video" is perfectly acceptable, but this is a statement - not a question and you can always add por favor.

You can also say ¿Me da / permite (or as Gringo suggests "presta") el guion del video?"

To say "¿Can I have / me puede prestar ...?" sounds anglosized to me and not natural in Spanish.

If you're going to talk to your teacher, use the formal (usted) form.

"¿Me puede dar/pasar?", etc. Or "¿Me puede traer?" or even "¿Puede traerme?"
