There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

¿Por qué zumba la abeja? Porque no sabe la letra.

Why does the bee buzz (hum)? Because he doesn't know the words.

Con suerte, este sitio puede continuar a zumbar en el futuro.

With luck, this site can continue to buzz into the future.

No estaba seguro de qué tipo de insecto zumbaba por todos partes anoche, pero al contrario de los mosquitos de los Estados Unidos, parecían preferir picar a otras personas, pero quizás fuera fue sólo porque la DEET que apliqué funcionaba.

I am not sure what type of insect was buzzing around last night, but in contrast to the mosquitos in the United States, they seemed to prefer to bite other people, but perhaps that was only because the DEET I put on was working.

Yes Bosque, when I was in San Jose they prefered the ticos, but the deet does d7scourage them also. Do not like the oily residue though. :) - 00cc0117, Apr 10, 2016

When a catchy song gets stuck in your head it is easy to hum, but hopefully not too loud or people will treat you like a buzzing bee.

Cuando alegre canción se atasca en su cabeza es fácil hum, pero esperemos que no demasiado fuerte o la gente se sentirá como un zumbar de abeja.

In Puerto Rico, the meaning of the word zumbar is different. It means to go for something, jump into something or have the courage to do something.

Like, Yo me voy a zumbar para la playa. (I'm going to the beach)

A veces cuando el avión toma tierra aterriza tengo un zumbido en las orejas.

Sometimes when the plane lands I have a buzzing sound in my ears.

enter image description here

Quelques fois a l’atterrissage il y a comme un bourdonnement dans mes oreilles. (Ian’s post reminded me of this French sentence I learned years ago and practiced so much it became my fastest French sentence. In Spanish my fast sentence was “La música de esos países es muy popular en los estados unidos Estados Unidos.” - Thanks to those who care to know this!)

Estoy acostumbrada a las abejas que zumban alrededor de las flores pero no me gustan nada las avispas europeas que zumban alrededor de nuestra comida.

I am used to the bees which buzz around the flowers but I do not like the European wasps which buzz around our food.
