There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Examples:

1: Guau, ¿siempre se ve tan poético tu escritorio?

Wow, does your writing desk always look so poetic?

2: El final de la película es muy poético.

The end of the movie is very poetic.

Me gustaría mucho ser capaz de escribir algo poético para la palabra del día hoy, pero hay una razón por la que normalmente escribo sobre las ciencias en lugar de ese tipo de cosa. Cuando estuvo estuve en la universidad y tomé una clase de literatura, recuerdo que la profesora me dijo que mi entendimiento de los temas subyacentes era muy bueno, pero mi manera de expresar ese entendimiento, no. Completé mis requisitos de inglés con un curso de la redacción científica.

I would like very much to be able to write something poetic for the Word of the Day today, but there is a reason that I normally write about the sciences instead of that type of thing. When I was in college and took a literature class, I remember that the professor told me that my understanding of the underlying themes was very good, but my manner of expressing that understanding was not. I finished my English requirements with a course in technical writing.

Para mi, las lenguas romances suenan tan poéticas - francés, italiano, portugés, y por supuesto español - especialmente en canciónes.

To me, the romance languages sound so poetic - French, Italian, Portuguese, and of couse Spanish - especially in songs.

La obra poética de Octavio Paz es muy vasta y, aunque a menudo se refiere a sus vivencias personales, también trata temas universales, como el amor.

The poetry of Octavio Paz is immense, and althoug he often refers to his own personal experiences, it also deals with universal values, such as love.

Thank you, Rac! smile

La vida no es poética y eso es la pura verdad. Pero como somos seres humanos con almas poéticas podemos construir poemas sobre la vida e intentar hacerla más poética que lo que realmente es.

Life is not poetic and that is the truth. But, as we are human beings, with poetic souls we can construct poems about life and try to make it more poetic than it really is.

La licencia poética es la libertad para apartarse de los hechos de una materia o de las normas convencionales del lenguaje al hablar o escribir con el fin de crear un efecto:

Utilizamos la licencia poética para bordar un buen cuento.

Poetic licence is the freedom to depart from the facts of a matter or from the conventional rules of language when speaking or writing in order to create an effect:

We use poetic licence to embroider a good tale.

The poetic writer dropped his pen at the astonishing sight of the beautiful sun setting beyond the magnificent stone arches.

El escritor poético cayó su pluma a la asombrosa vista hermosa puesta de sol más allá de los magníficos arcos de piedra.
