There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

The water from the spring rose from the earth and ran down the boulders.

2: El conflicto entre las dos naciones hizo aflorar algunos asuntos sin resolver.

The conflict between the two nations caused some unresolved issues to surface.

En distintos lugares afloran rocas que se formaron durante distintas épocas y la fauna de una cierta época se describí describió por primera vez usando los fósiles en las rocas que se encontraron en los montes Cámbricos de Gales, y por eso esa época es conocida como el período cámbrico, aunque quizás los fósiles cámbricos descubiertos en las latitas de Burgess en Canadá sean más famosos.

In different places rocks emerge that were formed during different epochs and the fauna of a certain epoch was described for the first time using the fossils in the rocks that were found in the Cambrian mountains of Wales, and for this reason that epoch is known as the Cambrian period, even though perhaps the Cambrian fossils discovered in the Burgess Shale of Canada are more famous.

Two men who were mortal enemies found out that both disliked the two women that stole their trucks, soon a friendship started to rise.

Spanish correction: Dos hombres que eran enemigos "mortales descubrieron que les disgustaba las mujeres que robaron sus camiones, empezó afloró."

Original sentence: Dos hombres que eran enemigos mortales encontramos que tanto disgustaba a las dos mujeres que robaron sus camiones, pronto una amistad empezó afloró.

*Gracias Pablo still not sure if I edited it right. *

As the morning sun rose, pristine water flowed over the two cliffs and sprayed down to the peaceful river far below, while the forest waterfall cascaded down the roughly hewed rock, flowing majestically into the small creek below.

When we are making a young wine, a must, a sort of scum, called 'flower' rises to the surface. This is not a flower but rather a type of mold and you have to treat it with sulfates. If you don't do this the wine will become cloudy and not very drinkable.

Los pensamientos afloran rápidamente a la superficie de su cabeza y huyen hacia el enorme espacio vacío de su vida. ¿Qué fue lo que ella quiso decir? La demencia, como un ladrón en la noche, le había robado su memoria y sus palabras.

Thoughts rise rapidly to the surface of her head and flee towards the vast empty space of her life. What was it that she wanted to say? Dementia, like a thief in the night, had robbed her of her memory and her words.

Los tiburones grandes necesitan mucha comida. Usualmente agarran peces debajo del agua pero si hay algo sabroso en la superficie, como un surfista, aflorarán con mucha rapidez.

Big sharks need a lot of food. Usually they catch fish underwater but if there is something tasty on the surface, like a surfer, they will surface very fast.
