Welcome to La Palabra Del Día

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

The news of the attack left Mario disconcerted.

2: Después de perder las elecciones, el candidato estaba desconcertado.

Ayer alguien puso una pregunta que fue contestada por tres hispanohablentes, incluso yo. Pero la reacción de esa persona, y cómo rechazó todas las respuestas me dejó un poco desconcertada.

Yesterday someone posted a question that was answered by three Spanish speakers, including myself. But the reaction of that person and how she rejected all the responses left me a little puzzled.

I think the passive isn't really used with this verb. I'd say "A los hombres a menudo les desconcierta/les deja desconcertados el comportamiento de las mujeres". or "Los hombres a menudo se quedan desconcertados por el comportamiento de las mujeres". - 0bito, Mar 31, 2016

Algunos están desconcertados al oír algunas interpretaciones de la realidad basadas en la física cuántica- por ejemplo a mi esposa no le gusta pensar en que cosas podrían no existir cuando no las miramos, pero está bien acompañada- a Einstein no le gustan estas implicaciones tampoco.

Some people are disconcerted upon hearing some of the interpretations of reality based on quantum physics- for example my wife does not like to think about that things might not exist when we are not looking, but she is in good company- Einstein did not like these implications either.
