panorama ( pah-noh-rah'-mah )

noun ( panorama; outlook; scene )

Welcome to La Palabra Del Día

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Creo que éste es el panorama que veremos desde la terraza de la casa en la que vamos a quedarnos en Costa Rica, la que está a alguna distancia de la playa, pero supone que compensar por eso se compensa con la vista.

I think this is the panorama that we will see from the patio of the house that we are going to stay in in Costa Rica, which is a bit of a schlep from the beach, but is supposed to make up for that with the view.

Pablo- my guess is that schlep is an American English term, and not used in British English, although I am not sure. :) - bosquederoble, Mar 26, 2016

I'm pretty sure that "schlep" is Yiddish. - AnnRon, Mar 26, 2016

In Australia we would just say a bit of a walk or a bit far or some distance from the beach. - jennysk, Mar 27, 2016

Ann- yes I think it derives from Yiddish- and that type of vocabulary is generally only known in American English, although with movies nowadays I am never sure. ;) - bosquederoble, Mar 28, 2016

Hopefully the insurance won't take too long to help and perhaps neighbors or family can help too. It's very sad. - rac1, Mar 26, 2016
Does 'ante tal panorama' mean 'given the circumstances'? Is it commonly used? - jennysk, Mar 27, 2016
'que van a hacer' ;) - Pablo064, Mar 27, 2016

Yo saco esta panorama con una cámara barata, así que la calidad de la imagen es mala.
I took this panorama with a cheap camera, so the image quality is bad.
