Shorten Spanish Numbers?

Shorten Spanish Numbers?

Is there a way to shorten Spanish numbers? For example:

1945

In english, no one says one-thousand, nine-hundred, forty-five because it takes 1,945 years to say that. Everyone just says nineteen, forty-five. In Spanish it's:

mil novecientos cuarenta y cinco

Mil-nob-eh-cien-tos-quar-enta-e-cin-co

which is a mouthful. Does Spanish have an abbreviated way to say numbers?

I don't think there is a short way in Spanish, but there should be so it is a good question. - Mardle, Mar 21, 2016

Yes we only say the two last digits if we are speaking about the nearest one hundred years from the past to the present day. But in this case you can't use the word "año" ., because if you say año, you must say all the cifre.

(All the numbers)0033------1492---1915--1916(only te last two numbers required)--1923---1933---2016(all numbers required)2017 ---2020.

I know that my English is poor , but I think that with the help of the examples it is untherstable. (Helping examples would be correct?)

Astotxua's answer is very useful. For English learners we do the same eg in 66 England won the World cup! However, we only write the full year in formal writing otherwise we use numerals and we usually say the numbers in blocks of two. except for centuries eg 1900 = nineteen hundred 2000 = two thousand/the millenium and certainly in the UK we would say 1901 as nineteen oh one [I have learned to say zero for automated recordings!]

We also talk about decades like the sixties or eighties [los sesenta/los ochenta]
