caprichoso ( kah-pree-choh'-soh )

adjective ( capricious; whimsical; fanciful )

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Elena took a picture of the fanciful roof of one of the buildings in Park Güell.

2: No seas tan caprichoso; ¡ya decídete!

Don't be so capricious; make a decision already!

Muchos creen que la interpretación de la mecánica cuántica de Niels Bohr representa una realidad muy caprichosa, especialmente debido a que nadie puede decir lo que exactamente constituye un "observador", pero todas las alternativas tienen sus propios problemas, y creo que este punto de vista queda el de es el que permanece en la mayoría.

Many believe that Neil Bohr's interpretation of quantum mechanics depicts a very capricious reality, especially since no one can say what exactly constitutes an "observer", but all the alternatives have their own problems and I think that this point of view remains that of the majority.

I don't get the last part 'punto de vista queda el de la mayoría./point of view remains that of the majority.' :I - Pablo064, Mar 22, 2016
La mayoría sigue creyendo que este punto de vista es correcto. :) - bosquederoble, Mar 22, 2016
La mayoría continúa teniendo esto como su punto de vista. :) - bosquederoble, Mar 22, 2016
Este todavía es el punto de vista de la mayoría. :) - bosquederoble, Mar 22, 2016
Oh what I suspected your other options are corrects and I'd use permanecer instead of quedar :D - Pablo064, Mar 22, 2016
'...permanece en la mayoría 'en' la...' or '...es el que permanece en (clearer)... - Pablo064, Mar 22, 2016

Un céfiro caprichoso verde revoloteaba por los montones de tomos cubierto de polvo, hasta que el hechicero, ahora enfadado, le voló por una bola de fuego rojo sangre.

A capricious green zephyr flitted through the piles of dusty tomes, until the wizard, now angry, blasted it with a ball of blood-red fire.

"the idiom" would be "on a whim" in American English. Por could not fit here. Maybe there is no equal saying in Spanish? - 00cc0117, Mar 21, 2016
Yes to me it is 'por un capricho' too :) - Pablo064, Mar 22, 2016
Gracias Pablo. - 00cc0117, Mar 22, 2016
What is the English for "por" here? Is it "because" ?? - 00cc0117, Mar 22, 2016

A veces hay palabras en español que me parecen como italiano y caprichoso sí es una. La palabra "capriccioso" en italiano suena como caprichoso y significa casi lo mismo.

Sometimes there are words in Spanish that seem like Italian to me and caprichoso is indeed one. The word “capriccioso” in Italian sounds like “caprichoso” and means about the same.

No sé si conoceís a la cantaora Paquita la del barrio. Si no, podéis empezar con su canción Te engaño tres veces . La primera por coraje, la segunda por capricho y la tercera por placer. Es una canción impresionante y una mujer estupenda.

Tres veces te engané

I don't know if you have heard of the singer Paquita, La del Barrio. If not, you could start by listening to her song ' I deceived you three times'. The first time out of bravery, the second time whimsically and the third time just for pleasure. This is an impressive song and a fantastic woman.
