pasajero ( pah-sah-heh'-roh )

adjective ( passing; fleeting )

Welcome to La Palabra Del Día

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

¡Cuánto me gustaría ser pasajera o miembro de la tripulación de una nave espacial y viajar por la galaxia!

Oh, how I would love to be a passenger or a member of the crew on a spaceship and travel throughout the galaxy!

David se detuvo por un momento pasajero antes de entrar en el barco y miró por encima del hombro al país del que estuviera (estaba) a punto de salir. En el barco las lágrimas corrían por su rostro. Fue la última vez que vería su patria y su familia.

David stopped for a fleeting moment before entering the ship and looked over his shoulder at the country he was about to leave. On the ship tears ran down his face. It would be the last time he would see his homeland and family.

"Fuimos" or "éramos" (Verb "ser" is used for identity--see my post on "ser and "estar") My preference would be "fuimos." "Eramos would be used if you meant that it was over and over for a certain length of time. - Daniela2041, Mar 18, 2016
Gracias amiga, and I just read your post on ser / estar before I came to this, very enlightening and appreciated. - 00cc0117, Mar 18, 2016

Ella me habló en estas palabras: “Todos los momentos de la vida son pasajeros incluso los placenteros. Pero las memorias de sufrimiento y dolor no son cual se sueltan tan fácilmente sueltos y por eso yo, Lete, te dio di a beber las aguas de olvidar olvido y después la luz de memorias pero sólo las de júbilo. Vete, mi hijo, tu felicidad te espera.” Mi pequeño cuento se acaba.

She spoke to me, “All the moments of life are fleeting even the pleasant ones. But the memories of suffering and pain are not so easily released and so I, Lete, gave you the water of forgetfulness and then the light of memory but only the memories of joy. Go, my child, your happiness awaits you.” My little story comes to an end.

Lete, te di a beber.....("cual" for "so" ?? my preference would be "tan" or maybe "cuán" ) but it may be a literary use that I'm not familiar with. "Las aguas de olvido" - Daniela2041, Mar 18, 2016
You also have some items in English that are singular and are plural in Spanish. If you wish to deal with these I can offer corrections if necessary. - Daniela2041, Mar 18, 2016

Hay elementos muy inestables que pueden existir sólo durante un momento pasajero después de ser creados, pero si alguien puede mostrar que ha creado uno, le permiten nombrarlo, aunque el proceso tarda mucho.

There are very unstable elements that can exist only for a passing moment after being created, but if someone can show that they have created one, they allow them to name them, even though the process takes a long time.

As the cherry blossoms swayed in the passing wind, the large waterfall thundered down the well-eroded cliff.

Como las flores de cerezo se mecían en el viento pasar, tronó la gran cascada por el acantilado bien erosionado.

Era un día perfecto hasta una nube pasajera echó una sombra en la celebración. Adentro de una mediahora el tiempo empeoró y comenzó a llover. Tuvieron que abandonar su picnic y buscar un refugio.

It was a perfect day until a passing cloud threw a shadow on the celebration. Within half an hour the weather got worse and it started to rain. They had to abandon their picnic and seek shelter.

Once upon a time there was a young swallow who didn't like long distance flying. Of course the time to migrate came and all the swallows left for South Africa, with the exception of our young friend. After spending about two weeks as the only swallow in England the young swallow experienced a fleeting moment of wisdom and knowledge. He knew that he had to fly, come what may. He bought himself an airplane ticket to Johannesburg , as an economy class passenger and arrived very relaxed in South Africa.

We all have fleeting difficulties and even more fleeting moments of joy.

Todos tenemos apuros pasajeros y más los momentos pasajeros e incluso más momentos fugaces de alegría.
