campaña ( kahm-pah'-nyah )

noun ( campaign; countryside; season )

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

1: Sr. Presidente, ¿puede explicarnos los fundamentos de su campaña contra la desigualdad?

Mr. President, can you explain the grounds for your campaign against inequality?

2: ¿Cuándo arranca la campaña de fresa en esta zona?

When does strawberry season start in this region?

The joke of course, is that Tina Fey has worked very hard at sounding like Sarah Palin (for those who aren't that familiar with American politics). :) - bosquederoble, Mar 5, 2016

Para mí y mi hijo, dar una vuelta por la campaña durante la primavera es un deleite celestial.

For me and my son, to go for a ride in the countryside in the Spring is a heavenly delight.

Sorry I never heard 'campaña' for 'campo' but I see it is an example provided by SD it must be a very specific regionalism :) - Pablo064, Mar 6, 2016
Hola, Pablo. I agree, but I went along with it as well., although "open countryside" is one of the definitions in my Diccionario Larousse. - Daniela2041, Mar 6, 2016

Cada cuatro años la campaña estación de otoño lleva trae las campañas para el presidente, pero me gustaría más estar en la campaña mirando la cosecha de cereales. Dejo la campaña de difusión a los políticos.

Every four years the autumn season brings the presidential campaigns, but I'd rather be in the countryside watching grain harvest. I will leave the media campaign to the politicians.

I do not know why the presidential campaign has to last 2 years in the US, not to mention the millions of dollars spent that could have been spent elsewhere.

No sé porque la campaña presidencial tiene que durar por 2 años en los EEUU, por no mencionar los millones de dolares gastado que podrían gastarse en otra cosa lugar.

Gracias, Pablo. Pero no entiendo porque. Doesn't "la nueva campaña" mean "another campaign" or "the newly-acquired campaign" and "la campaña nueva" mean "the newly-made campaign"? - AnnRon, Mar 6, 2016
We would use 'la nueva campaña' for either case and altough my suggestion is insignificant and yours is ok too, it is the common way of saying that - Pablo064, Mar 7, 2016

Durante una campaña electoral todo tipo de basura se habla de los políticos obsesionado consigo mismo.

During an election campaign all sorts of rubbish is spoken by self-obsessed politicins.

My least favourite is Shrillery. smile
