What does "un alcaraván" mean'

Thank you! I sure wasn't finding this in any of my dictionaries! But it makes more sense than a clock, especially the reference to "pasos zancudos."

alcaraván is a "stone curlew". a curlew is any wading bird of a certain type possessing a long slender down-curved bill.
