To be a "lemon" it needs to be defective not old and worn out. - 00551866, Feb 27, 2016
Like any saying, it can change with location. - 00551866, Feb 27, 2016
I added a link to my original answer that covers the question in detail. - 00551866, Feb 27, 2016

Esto no es un carro "lemon" es una chatarra o una carcacha. En Costa Rica una bomba. In English a junker or beater or old wreck.

Esto es un "lemon", es un carro nuevo o casi nuevo que tiene mucho tiempo en el taller por problemas mecánicos raros.

Una bomba. Gracias - 00cc0117, Feb 27, 2016
We also use "bomb" and there is a car hire company called "Rent a Bomb". - ray76, Feb 27, 2016
I agree about the the new defective car, but I think it´s true for old cars too, ie: A Ford Pinto was a lemon when it was made in the 70s and it is still a lemon - 005faa61, Feb 27, 2016
I agree with you, there are lemon models that will always be lemons. The only difference is that now you know it is a lemon before you buy it. - 00551866, Feb 27, 2016

In CR a shopping cart is a coche, and I believe that in other places a cart is a carro. - 00551866, Feb 27, 2016
