Hola soy Benedicte una estudiante belga. Hago una investigación de la cultura española. ¿Cómo es un día normal en España? ¿Hay diferencias con el norte y el sur de España?

Un día normal en España. ¡Uf! ¡Qué difícil!

Spain is culturally divided into many regions. Life in Andalucía is not the same as it is in Castilla where Madrid, the capital, is located. Madrid in its activity is a lot like New York or any big American city --with a Spanish accent of course.

Galicia, on the west coast is extremely different from Barcelona in the northeast. Each region has its own language. Of course, inhabitants of these two regions of Spain can speak Castillian, but they prefer not to. Catalán, which is spoken in the Province of Cataluña, of which Barcelona is the capital is totally different from Castillian. In fact Italian is closer linguistically to Castillian than is Catalán.

That's just talking about languages. Each region has its own lifestyle. Barcelona is known for being a great industrial center. In Southern Spain, there are many areas where rural life is the way to go. Sort of laid back.

One of my textbooks I had in High School "Por Esas Españas" infers the idea that there are many Spains. I can verify this as I was born there and lived there the first nine years of my life. My home town, Rota, a coastal town in Southwest Spain, is a military town. The US Navy and Marines have a big base there.

Besides being a military town and also being a very, very beautiful, beach town,it is also a great tourist attraction. Many of the beautiful coastal towns attract tourists from all over the world.

I almost forgot to mention the Basque region between France and Spain. The vascongados are a proud bunch with their own traditions. Many of them would rather not be a part of Spain. Indeed some acts of terrorism have been accomplished by some, not to kill anybody, but just to blow up a building or sabotage a railway. There are a few vascongados on this site who can explain their position better than I.

A normal day in Spain? Which one?

- Jubilado, Feb 26, 2016
I remember looking the word up having seen 8 apellidos vascos - Mardle, Feb 26, 2016
Jubilado, I believe the language is very, very old, it predates indo-european languages. - annierats, Feb 26, 2016

In English we call them "Basques" They are an ethnic group that speaks a language called "euskara" which has no connection to any other language on Earth. - Daniela2041, Feb 26, 2016
