There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Hace poco en una pelicula muy interesante de sufragistas inglesas, vi la espantosa alimentación forzada de una sufragista en huelga de hambre.

Recently, in a very interesting movie about English suffragettes, I saw the frightful force-feeding of a suffragette on hunger strike.

Para hacer un punto asegurarse, los trabajadores se declaron en huelga al llamando a dando parte de enfermos.

To make a point, all of the workers went on strike by calling in sick.

( The picture should say: " I have an eye problem". ....or "I'm having an eye problem.")

Cuando mi esposa trabajaba, la obligaron a ser miembro del sindicato, lo que le molestó mucho (el hecho que pudieran tomar su dinero sin su permiso), pero una vez hubo una huelga, y creo que disfrutó de ello por los aspectos sociales aunque no estoy seguro de que ella entendiera el asunto.

When my wife used to work, they forced her to be a member of the union, which bothered her very much (the fact that they could take her money without her permission), but one time there was a strike, and I think that she enjoyed it for the social aspects even though I am not sure that she understood the issue.

¿Es esta una huelga por más dinero , o mejores condiciones ?

En otras palabras, ¿ Es esto un golpe para los trabajadores?

Is this a strike for more money, or better conditions?

In other words, is this a blow for the workers?

Algunos trabajadores tienen más poder que otros. Si su patrón va a pedir mucho dinero por una huelga, es más probable que ganen sus reclamos. Mientras tanto, los que cuidan niños o ancianos no tienen mucho poder y por eso su pago permanece bajo.

Some workers have more power than others. If their employer is going to lose a lot of money through a strike, it is more likely they will win their demands. Meanwhile, those who care for children and the elderly don't have much power and so their pay remains small.
