Highway Numbers in Mexican Spanish
Buenas!
I am travelling to Mexico soon and will be doing some driving. How are the autopistas referred to en Mexico? In the States, highway 495 would be pronounced "four ninety five" not "four hundred ninety five". Is there similar in Mexico? Is 180 "ciento ochenta" or "uno ochenta"?
Gracias -Tom

Normally, highways aren't numbered here in Mexico (I've never heard of it). They're named by section, which means they are named for the cities that they connect. Example: Mexico-Puebla. And, if you want to tell the specific location on the highway, you can say "Estoy en kilometro 197 (ciento noventa y siete) de la autopista Mèxico-Puebla".
Buenas!,
I agree with what Francot says about the autopistas in Mexico, but the free highways (carretera libre) have numbers. ie: From Nogales to Mexico DF it is Carretera 15, I have been on it numerous times.
Entre La Paz y Los Cabos hay dos carreteras. Numeros 1 y 17.
I also agree with francot.
