There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Although I do not think what you have is wrong in English, a more natural way for me would be to say "travelling from city to city." - Jubilado, Feb 13, 2016

Desde el comienzo del último siglo se ha desarrollado un planteamiento de clasificar los animales, el cual se conoce como la cladística, basado solamente en su ancestro común más reciente y no en su aspecto y según este método, los reptiles, por ejemplo, no constituyen un grupo natural.

Since the beginning of the last century there has been developed an approach to classifying animals, which is known as cladistics, based solely on their most recent common ancestor and not on their appearance and according to this method, reptiles, for example, don't constitute a natural grouping.

So, Bosque, where do the reptiles end up? This is very interesting and I was not aware of it. - annierats, Feb 14, 2016
In the case of the living reptiles, if you include the birds, you can form a group, but only by including the birds, and excluding the reptilian ancestors of mammals. - bosquederoble, Feb 14, 2016

Desde hace tiempo me enamoré de un joven inglés, y hoy, como es el día de los enamorados, vamos a salir juntos para celebrar que todavía estamos juntos aunque de vez en cuando hemos tenido los problemas propios de cualquier pareja.

A long time ago I fell in love with a young Englishman, and today, as it is Valentine's Day, we'll go out together in order to celebrate that we're still together even though sometimes we've had our troubles, like any other couple.

Thanks, Pablo. Q.E.D. I thought my textbook said to use present tense indicative in a construction like this, but apparently I misunderstood or misremembered yet again. Todaviía tengo que estudiarla más. - AnnRon, Feb 14, 2016
Todavía. - AnnRon, Feb 14, 2016
Ann, I agree, what is the difference between desde hace and hace?? Somebody explained it to me once, but I have forgotten. - annierats, Feb 14, 2016
'hace' would be 'it has been' or 'ago' e.g 'it's been ten days since he's gone' or 'he's gone ten days ago' and you can translate it as 'han sido diez días desde que se fue' or use 'hace' 'hace diez días se fue' or 'se fue hace diez días' - Pablo064, Feb 14, 2016
'desde hace' would be when you are talkin about action in a period of time but the action is still ongoing and you would use 'for' in English e.g 'desde hace tres días lo estoy llamando' 'I've been calling him for three days - Pablo064, Feb 14, 2016
'about actions'* - Pablo064, Feb 14, 2016
Got it (for now anyway)! Thanks, Pablo. - AnnRon, Feb 14, 2016

Desde ya estoy planeando un viaje a Panamá. No he estado allí desde 2001. He oído que están casi acabados con un nuevo canal desde entonces.

Right now I'm planning a trip to Panama. I have not been there since 2001. I hear they are almost finished with a new canal since then.

Dicen que una copa de tinto al día es saludable. Desde luego, diez copas no son diez veces tan saludable.

They say that a glass of red wine a day is healthy. Of course, ten glasses are not ten times as healthy.

Hay un poema "Desde abajo" por Judith Bautista que quería compartir con ustedes pero no pude hallar como pedir permiso de la escritora para ponerlo en el foro. Trata sobre una reflexión del verso 25 de Mateo 11 en la Biblia. Si quieres leerlo mándame un mensaje.

There is a poem "From Below" by Judith Bautista that I wanted to share with you all, but I couldn't find how to ask permission from the author to put it on the forum. It deals with a reflection on verse 25 of Matthew 11 in the Bible. If you would like to read it send me a message.
