For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. A few years ago we were on holiday on the island of Mallorca. We rented a car for one day and were going to take a trip around the island. I was driving, heading North, and my husband was reading the map and telling me what to do when the car started to jerk and soon afterwards the engine gave up. I tried to start it, but it was useless. I had to ring the hire-car office, a very small office, and explain to the man in the office where we were ( on the hard shoulder, onto which we had pushed the car) and that the engine had died. '' Can you start the car? '' the man in the office asked.'' Yes, well, no, I don't know '' , I replied because I didn't understand the word ' arrancar''. My husband told me '' Tell him it won't start!'' I said'' No, it doesn't start' . 'Ok' said the man , '' wait, please!'' And that's how I learnt the meaning of ' arrancar'' , by having a break-down on Mallorca.
