I have only ever used and been aware that you only use the singular form:

Comida basura = junk food

After all, even when speaking 'collectively' in English (that is, talking about all) of this kind of food together, you don't say junk foods or junks food. I believe this is a singular collective noun.

If you wanted to talk about lots of different examples of junk food, you could say:

Hamburgers, bread rolls and many of the meals served in McDonalds are all examples of junk food

I am open to correction in both languages,, as always wink

What do you say, Ian the mod, please?

Some food + some food = some food. Chees is a food and bread is a food, these are foods.. - 00551866, Feb 9, 2016
What are your 3 favorite junk foods. But I suppose it should be said what are 3 favorite types of junk food. - bosquederoble, Feb 9, 2016
could be said. - 00551866, Feb 9, 2016
correction two foods. 1 food + 1 food are two foods. - 00551866, Feb 9, 2016
Now that I have time, a note from an English book I have. "A few noncount nouns may also be used as count nouns especally in informational English". However, food was not listed with the "commonly used noncount nouns". - 00551866, Feb 9, 2016

Correct or not, people pluralize it. See the above link, I could fill pages with links of people using it that way. :) - bosquederoble, Feb 10, 2016

Because both are nouns, my understanding typically with this type of formulation, you pluralize only the first, so personally I would say “comidas basura”.

This is like horas punta as plural for hora punta:

Here is a quote (this is a small part of a larger lesson on forming difficult plurals):

http://elcastellano.elnortedecastilla.es/castellano/aula/el-plural-de-algunos-compuestos

That being said, not all agree:

For those who refuse to recognize that comida basura is used in places like Spain, what is the plural of comida chatarra. ;) - bosquederoble, Feb 10, 2016

And for those who don't think it can be pluralized, whoever wrote the above article thinks so. ;) - bosquederoble, Feb 10, 2016
