There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Cuando me casé hace muchos años, mi suegro tenía un cultivo de algodón en su granja en Tejas.

When I got married many years ago, my father-in-law had a crop of cotton on his farm in Texas.

West Texas about 40 miles south of Umbarger

En nuestro país el cultivo de maíz es absolutamente natural y generalizado, pero pocos saben que el maíz proviene de América.

In our country the cultivation of corn is quite natural and widespread, but few know that corn comes from America.

No, Rac, here they are called pimientos italianos. Mine haven't done very well either, I should have planted them in the sun, apparently. I didn't. - annierats, Feb 4, 2016
Actually, these are called Sandia peppers, and they can be very hot. We roast the green peppers, and we also let them turn red. The red ones are dried and made into a sauce. Yummy!!!! - Jraider, Feb 4, 2016

Cuando vas a hospital te van a hacer un análisis de sangre y te van decir que es para cultivarlo.. Esto no tiene sentido porque el sangre no crece en vitro.

When you go to hospital they will take a blood-sample from you and tell you that this will be ' cultivated' . Really, this makes no sense, as blood doesn't grow in glass tubes.

El cultivo de avellanos es muy popular cerca de mi casa, y solía echarlos echarles la culpa de mis alergias hasta que un granjero me explicó que florecen en una temporada diferente, así que decidí echarlos echarles la culpa a los coníferos las coníferas en su lugar de esto.

The cultivation of hazelnut trees is very popular near my house, and I used to blame them for my allergies until a farmer explained to me that they flower in a different season, so then I decided to blame conifers instead.

Este año mi cultivo de tomates es bastante bueno, pero las otras verduras no han crecido bien. Quizás esto es causado por el clima inusual or quizás no hay suficiente abejas.

This year my crop of tomatoes is quite good, but the other vegetables have not grown well. Perhaps this is caused by the unusual weather or perhaps there are not enough bees.
