Does word genger apply to everything?

so amigos would be for boys and if it was girls it would be amigas, what i don't understand is does this apply to everything so if i said nosotros somos americanos would it be americanas for girls or would it stay the same? thank you.

You say "everything" but you only mention persons, so groups of people male and female together are conjugated in male gender, ie: for "amigos y amigas" we say "amigos."

For "we / us" male and female together we say "nosotros" but for "we" as a group of females only we say "nosotras".

All nouns are gender based - not just persons.
