Would it be more correct to say "ellos no permitían que yo vaya al cine ayer" or "ellos no permitían que yo fuera al cine ayer"

they didn't let me go to the movies yesterday.

when I translate them they say the same thing... thanks... I'm leaning towards the second one.

The second is correct. Both clauses need to be in past tense, including the subjunctive.

Wouldn't "no me permitieron" be better than "permitían"? - Daniela2041, Jan 24, 2016
There is not much context, so I didn´t even notice, ha ha! But you´re right :-) - 005faa61, Jan 24, 2016
