La Palabra Del Dia: "acostumbrado"

Question

acostumbrado ( ah-kohs-toom-brah'-doh )

adjective ( usual; used to, accustomed )

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

1: Todavía no estoy acostumbrado a pagar los impuestos en línea.

I'm still not used to paying my taxes online.

2: El gato está dormido en el lugar acostumbrado: el cesto de ropa sucia.

The cat's asleep in the usual spot; the laundry basket.

Todavía no estoy acostumbrado a estudiar regularmente para mis clases, por eso siempre fallo en muchos examenes.

I'm still not used to studying for my classes regularly that's why I always fail many of my exams.

Estoy acostumbrada de levantarme temprano y después de desayuno usar la computadora para leer las noticias, mi correspondencia y hacer mi favoritas ejercicios españoles.

I'm used to getting up early and after breakfast I use the computer to read the news, my mail and I do my favorite Spanish lessons.

Antes de enganchar un caballo al carro hay que acostumbrarlo a muchas cosas, como los arreos, las riendas largas, tirar algo detrás de él, los rúidos del carruaje, los coches que vamos a encontrar en la carretera y quizás lo peor de todo, los ciclistas que aparecen sin hacer ningún ruído y muchas veces espantan al caballo porque el caballo no oye las bicicletas acercandose a él.

Before hitching a horse to the cart it is necessary to get him used to many things, for example the harness, the long reins, to pull something behind him, the noise of the carriage, the cars that we'll meet on the road, and maybe, worst of all, the bicyclists that appear noiselessly and often frighten the horse because he cannot hear them coming.

No me he acostumbrado a la vida que merezco por falta de suficiente dinero, pero dado dada la oportunidad, estoy seguro de que puedo aprender a considerarla la norma. (Por supuesto, esto solo es un chiste; de verdad no creo que merezca ni lo que la vida me ha proporcionado dado).

I have not become accustomed to the life that I deserve due to lack of sufficient funds, but given the opportunity I am sure that I could learn to consider it the norm. (Of course, this is only a joke; truthfully I don’t think that I even merit what live life has given me).

Cuando pierda mis llaves busco en los lugares acostumbrados y si no las encuentro pido a San Antonio - un costumbre católico - y casi siempre me ayuda.

When I loose my keys, I look in the usual places and if I don’t find them I pray to St. Anthony - a Catholic tradition - and he almost always helps me.

Me gustaría informarles a ustedes que es muy facil acostumbrarse a la jubilación. Pues, fue así para mí, aunque creo que hay algunas personas que echan de menos su trabajo.
