There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

The cards indicate the corresponding price of each variety of olive.

2: Favor de enviar la documentación correspondiente a tu asistente social.

Please send the relevant documentation to your caseworker.

Well that's no fun. Plenty of people post in their own threads. I guess I should stop posting in mine, then. Not much fun, then. - sanlee, Jan 14, 2016

@ rac1: Here's how I see it: Every day, you are giving the other members a task to do, so you should not do the task yourself. I fully support and appreciate your handling of this regular feature. :) - Raja-jani, Jan 14, 2016

I enjoy reading Sandy's posts on her threads, I would have no objections to seeing a post from Rac on her thread either. We have few enough consistently corrected posts that no one should loose the opportunity simply for being kind enough to run the thre - bosquederoble, Jan 14, 2016

Hay algunos hispanohablantes en California que creen que "correspondent" (periodista) se traduce "correspondiente." (Debido a la influencia del inglés, sin duda.) Pero no es verdad. Se dice "corresponsal."

There are some Spanish speakers in California who believe that "correspondent" (journalist) translates as "correspondiente." (Due to the influence of English, undoubtedly.) But it's not true. One says "corresponsal."

Se supone que cuando se creó el universo se formaron cantidades iguales de materia y de antimateria, pero hoy en día no podemos encontrar una cantidad de antimateria correspondiente para toda la materia que existe lo que causa que los físicos crean que hay un asimetría en cómo los procesos ocurran ocurren con la materia y con la antimateria.

It is supposed that when the universe was created equal quantities of matter and antimatter were formed, but nowadays we cannot find a corresponding amount of antimatter for all the matter that exists which makes the physicists believe there is an asymmetry in how processes occur with matter and with antimatter.

After "fíisicos" you have two subjunctives. They're not needed. - Daniela2041, Jan 14, 2016
In that sentence the subjunctive doesn't "matter" or "anti matter" for that matter. :) - Daniela2041, Jan 14, 2016
The ocurran was not intentional. I thought causar que required subjunctive though. Thanks. :) - bosquederoble, Jan 14, 2016
Ooops! Sorry!! I didn't see the "causa" You're correct!! (B A D Dani!!) It just the second subjunctive that was not needed. ¡Ay! Qué babosa soy! - Daniela2041, Jan 14, 2016
Well since I put in ocurran purely by accident (I had no intention of that being subjunctive) I would never be one to cast stones. Thanks, Daniela. :) - bosquederoble, Jan 14, 2016
You all are the best! These comments make me laugh and make my day. :) - rac1, Jan 14, 2016

Ayer fui al hospital veterinario para comprar unos tratamientos contra pulgas , garrapatas y parasitos internos y ya he dado las pastillas a los perros y media pastilla a la gatita, quien desafordunadamente escupió la otra mitad. Ya no sé que hacer, cuando venga el día correspondiente en febrero, debería darle a Gratis ( la gatita) una dosis de una pastila y media o solo una dosis normalita o, quizás no le de nunca otra pastilla , me mordió y me arañó y por cierto no me dió las gracias.

Yesterday I went to the Veterinary Hospital in order to buy some treatments against fleas, ticks and internal parasites and now I have given the pills to the dogs and half a pill to the kitten , who unfortunate spat the other half out. Now I don't know what to do when we get to the same day next month, should I give Gratis( the kitten) a pill and a half, or just the normal dose, or maybe I won't give her another pill ever again, she bit me and she scratched me and she certainly didn't thank me.

Pilling a cat is very difficult. Can you try putting it in cheese or meat? Rac is right. The normal dose next month. - sanlee, Jan 14, 2016
Pilling cats is indeed a job for profesional boxers wearing protective gear.. In the picture you can see her saying hello to her injured friend. The dog has now recovered, - annierats, Jan 14, 2016
Yes, it is certainly a challenge. I have had many cats and some I could never give a pill to. There is a flea and tick treatment that is just a drop on the back of the neck. You could use it if you are sure the dog would not lick it off right away. - sanlee, Jan 14, 2016
I've always been amazed at the ease in which vets handle cats. They just grab them by the back of the neck and do what ever thet want :-)! - Jraider, Jan 14, 2016
I'm not a vet, but that's how I do it. It doesn't hurt them. - Daniela2041, Jan 14, 2016
Jraider, I have tried this but the outcome is not the same, daniela, you're welcome to visit.. - annierats, Jan 14, 2016
Sanlea, the drops don't works so well, however, there are many ways to skin a rat , o kill a flea, we're not done with yet.. - annierats, Jan 14, 2016
Perhaps wrap the pill in a piece of raw fish (assuming your cat likes raw fish). - Winkfish, Jan 14, 2016

Uno de mis aparatos favoritos de todos los tiempos es la linotipia. Contiene muchos moldes para fundir las letras de plomo. Después de ser utilizados, los moldes regresan a la parte superior de la máquina y cada uno se cae en su ranura correspondiente.

One of my favorite devices of all time is the linotype. It holds many molds for casting the letters in lead. After being used, the molds return to the top of the machine and each one falls into its corresponding slot.

I think, a crypt is singular, therefore, ' was discovered'. Great work and very interesting sentences. - annierats, Jan 14, 2016
And they just keep finding more stuff :-)! - Jraider, Jan 14, 2016
Shouldn't it be "descubrieron" seeing that is in the past tense in English? - Daniela2041, Jan 14, 2016
Annie, You are are 'spot on' (exactly right) ; it should be: 'was' discovered ...because a crypt is singular ! :) - FELIZ77, Jan 14, 2016
Surely, now it would have to be: " fue descubierto' = was discovered :) - FELIZ77, Jan 14, 2016
My translation says "They discovered" The undelcared subject is "they" plural. If you go for the passive then the singular is OK - Daniela2041, Jan 15, 2016
I didn't even look at the English until now. The Spanish is way different. It says "they discovered" then in the English you say that the crypt "was disovered." Big difference! - Daniela2041, Jan 15, 2016

The judge/s would have to be very bad at their job for the lawyers for the prosecution and defence to get away with doing that, and. besides, the opposing counsel would usually raise objections as to the relevance of the remarks made and the judge would - FELIZ77, Jan 14, 2016
ask either of the lawyers what their point is or to get to the point! ;) - FELIZ77, Jan 14, 2016
Wink, sorry, I thought you meant in court ...did you mean, instead, face to face with their clients? - FELIZ77, Jan 14, 2016
In many situations. It is a bit of an exaggeration, I admit, and yes, if in court, a judge would reign in such lawyers. Just making a little joke. (Apparently it was a very little joke!) ;-) - Winkfish, Jan 14, 2016
Well, It was actually quite funny, Wink exaggeration apart! lol I don't think that lawyers have a monopoly on waffling I have listened to some politicians on 'Question Time' and wondered what the heck they were talking about lol - FELIZ77, Jan 14, 2016
Actually, Feliz, I'd say politicians are even worse than lawyers in that respect. LOL!! ;-) - Winkfish, Jan 14, 2016
