navegar ( nah-veh-gahr' )

verb ( to sail; to fly; to surf )

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

1: Los piratas navegaron por los siete mares en búsqueda del tridente de Poseidón.

The pirates sailed the seven seas in search of Poseidon's trident.

2: Sé que estás navegando por el Internet en vez de escucharme.

I know you're surfing the Internet instead of listening to me.

A mi esposa le gusta navegar cuando estoy conduciendo.

En otras palabras ella es una conductora asiento trasero.

My wife likes to navigate when I drive.

In other words she is a back seat driver.

Annie, I agree with you about driving : conducir (as they use i in Spain) or manejar in many other Latin American countries but I think Esteban was trying to use the word navegaar in the sense of steer between obstacles :) - FELIZ77, Jan 13, 2016
I mean: navegar - FELIZ77, Jan 13, 2016
Estean, great sentence I am unsure whether you can navegar in this sense for a car We will have to see what the natives say :) - FELIZ77, Jan 13, 2016
Yes it is okay besides it is twotd :) - Pablo064, Jan 14, 2016
Hurrah - thanks Pablo! and Feliz -I used driving for the example because on a couple ocassions I've had to do just that. I found the navigate through life's challenges etc. meaning for navegar in an example given on the SD translate. - Esteban_317, Jan 14, 2016
Jeff - really glad your son wasn't hurt! My step son had a similar episode - driving a car loaned to us by his step bro ! Car was repairable that time. (Grateful for Guardian Angels: - ). - Esteban_317, Jan 14, 2016

Me parece que navegar en la red puede ser una ocupación peligrosa y si estás navegando allí, ¡ ten cuidado !

It seems to me that surfing on the web can be a dangerous occupation and if you are doing it, beware!

Cuando yo era un niño, navegamos el mar de Bering, en busca de salmón rojo, que cogimos en las redes de deriva.

When I was a kid, we sailed the Bering Sea in search of red salmon (sockeye salmon), which we caught in driftnets.

¡Navegaron satisfactoriamente (o con éxito) por el río largo hasta que lleguemos a una catarata grande, luego amarraron la pequeña lancha (a?) un gran árbol cerca de la ribera, se pusieron sus paracaidas y se lanzaron* con (o en) paracaidas de la catarata sin ningún percance! ¡Después de todo, fue el pan nuestro de cada día (o fue muy fácil hacer) para dos espías de su Majestad con la más experiencia! wink

o saltaron*

They sailed successfully along the long river until they came to (arrived at) a great waterfall, then they tied the small cruiser to a large tree by the (river) bank, put on their parachutes, and parachuted safely over the waterfall! After all, it was all in a day's work for two of Her Majesty's (the Queen's) most experienced spies! wink

Corrijan mi español si es necesario, por favor smile

Siempre he tenido el deseo de navigar por alta mar, no quiero viajar en un crucero, no, lo que me gustaría hacer es navegar a la vela en un yate pequeño, como mis antepasados, los vikingos.

I have always had a desire to sail the deep blue sea, but I don't want to travel in a cruise-ship, no, just like my forefathers, the vikings, I would like to sail in a small sailing boat.

Si yo ganara el powerball, compraría un superyate y navegaría por el mundo- pero no puedo ganar porque nunca pagar pago esos "impuestos voluntarios"- pago los suficientes involuntarios. Bueno, la verdad es que ayer contribuí con un dólar para el bote de la oficina, pues sólo era un dólar.

If I were to win the Powerball, I would buy a superyacht and sail around the world- but I can't win because I never pay those "voluntary taxes"- I pay enough involuntary ones. Okay, the truth is that yesterday I contributed a dollar to the office pool, well it was only a dollar.

My first time in a long time to try to use pues- always in the past Pablo has told me that I used it wrong.

No hay nada major que navigar en la noche cuando se puede ver un millón de estrellas en el cielo.

There is nothing better than sailing at night when you can see a million stars in the sky.
