esa no es mi madre

esta no es mi madre

Why do both sentences above translate "This is not my mother"? I thought the first one should be "That is not my mother".

I found these on several translators, including the spanishdict translator.

que no es mi madre was translated as it is not my mother.

Please use proper capitalzation and punctuation. We have beginning learners on the site, (English and Spanish) Most of your writing was OK. Just the Spanish had problems. - Daniela2041, Jan 10, 2016

That (one) is not my mother.

This (one) is not my mother.

So you were right. Sometimes the translator goofs up.

"que no es mi madre" is not a sentence. It is a sentence fragment. It needs something to precede it like, "Te dije que no es mi madre." I told you that she's not my mom.

To continue further on SpanishDict, would you now please fill in your profile for us. It helps us to properly answer questions at the appropriate level and in what language. Sometimes some explanations are better given in Spanish.

Also it's a matter of courtesy. Thanks.

Buena suerte
