There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

A fine will be imposed upon anyone who parks in a bike lane.

2: No busco imponer mi opinión a nadie.

Cuando nos infundimos nuestras creencias en nuestros hijos, lo llamamos la enseñanza. Cuando los demás imponen sus creencias en nuestros hijos, lo llamamos adoctrinamiento.

When we infuse our beliefs into our children, we call it teaching. When others impose their beliefs on our children, we call it indoctrination.

Well thought and said. By the way, I have observed that indoctrination prevails more often. - Raja-jani, Jan 8, 2016
Gracias, Rajaji. Now it remains to be seen if a native speaker thinks it is as well said in Spanish as it is in English. :D - jrschenk, Jan 8, 2016

Imponerle tu voluntad a otra persona se llama una "imposición."

To impose your will on an other person is an "imposition."

Si todos los padres pudieran imponer buenos modales en sus hijos, la sociedad sería mejor para todos.

If all parents could instill good manners into their children, society would be better for everyone.

Wouldn't it though? :) - rac1, Jan 9, 2016
Thanks Pablo. I can see why it's subjunctive, but not why its the imperfect subjunctive. Can anyone explain this? - jennysk, Jan 9, 2016
Jenny it is the same as English -'if' clause(past tense)+main clause(conditional)- So when it is 'subjunctive' in Spanish and you put the Eng verb in past it will be imperfect subjunctive in Spanish - Pablo064, Jan 9, 2016
Maybe my 'explanation' is tough but it works :) - Pablo064, Jan 9, 2016
Ok, but I didn't think it was past tense. - jennysk, Jan 10, 2016

Hay están los que creen que la mejor manera es imponer sus creencias a otros y hay están los que creen que la verdad de sus creencias debería hablar por sí misma.

There are those that believe that the best way is to impose their beliefs on others and there are those that believe that the truth of their beliefs should speak for itself.

Yes. If you have faith in something, demonstrate why instead of trying to convince me :-)! - Jraider, Jan 8, 2016
Although I wrote a neutral sentence with no explicit value judgement, by imponer I meant impose by means of the sword, not the pen so to speak. ;) - bosquederoble, Jan 8, 2016
'están los que..y están los que..or 'hay quienes creen que..y hay quienes creen que.' are a lot better in Spanish ;) - Pablo064, Jan 9, 2016
One day I remember that you do not like "hay los que". Thanks, Pablo. :) - bosquederoble, Jan 9, 2016
Actually I never heard 'hay los que' but it seems correct but not too natural that's why I suggest the other way - Pablo064, Jan 9, 2016

Often we are simply sharing our views with others ...if they like them and agree with our views they call it a discussion, if we respectfully agree to disagree, they may call it a lively debate, but if they strongly disagree they may accuse us of ... - FELIZ77, Jan 9, 2016
...indoctrination, yet we are not preventing them at all from using their freewill...simply presenting än alternative viewpoint which they may consciously or unconsciously perceive as a threat! - FELIZ77, Jan 9, 2016

Imponer ,suena lo mismo que "importune" , pero son muy diferentes .

"imponer" significa imponer, para inculcar, de hacer cumplir.

Impose, sounds the same as "importune" English ,but are they very different.

"Importune" significa a la fuerza contra los voluntad.

"Importune",ask (someone) pressingly and persistently for or to do something.

Imponer-

Quiero imponer algunos buenos modelos para los miembros.

I want to impose some good models for the members.

Importune- ****Badger ,pester , molest , solicit, annoy, hunt, trouble***.

I want to importune the members until they agree.

Quiero a importunar los miembros hasta que están de acuerdo.
