"¿Estás viendo el sol?"

I know the literal translation of this is "Are you seeing the sun?" but that doesn't make a heck of a lot of sense. My thoughts are there are two possible alternatives that do make sense:
Are you looking at the sun (as in "¿Estás mirando el sol?")
Do you see the sun? (as in "¿Ves el sol?")
The first could be right as I know sometimes "ver" and "mirar" are interchangeable. The second could be right as it is how we express the continuous act of seeing in English.
So, my question is, which, if either, is correct?

Your two alternatives are the way we say it.
"¿Estás viendo el sol?" doesn´t sound natural.
