Qué significa para calentarlos para tender?

Lo mejor en estos casos es hacer una previsión y sacar tiempo para hacer la compra,elegir los mejores productos u cocinarlos. Muchas veces nos escudamos en la falta de electrodomésticos para calentarlos para tender,por comodidad,a tirar de alimentos de fácil preparado,como bocadillos.

The sentence is a little bit strange. After reading it many times I think I got the meaning. For me it is so hard to explain it in English but I'll try. The last sentence means:

Many times we use the lack of electrical appliance for heating them (*) as a pretext to eat fast food such as sandwiches.

The sentence also said that we do that due to convenience.

(*) I think that here "them" refers to the food.
