To pick up

To pick up

I know if I want to say, "I'm going to pick up my suit from the cleaners" it would be "Voy a recoger mi traje de la tintorería"

But what if I wanted to say, "I'm going to pick up my son from school" would it be "Voy a recoger a mi hijo de la escuela" or would it be stated another way to state picking up a person?

Your version works fine, in Spain, at least, as far as I know. - annierats, Dec 28, 2015

Yes. You can say that too and you can see it is regional things and also there are other ways to say the same thing.

Pretty much like in English?

NO, in English is always ' pick up', I thinkg, Chileno. Suits, sons, stray dogs, whatever, you just pick them up, men , women.. - annierats, Dec 28, 2015
In American English there are other ways: "I'm going to get my son from school." "I'm going to collect my son from school." (Actually, I hear people use that one in the UK very often.) - Winkfish, Dec 28, 2015
Let them walk to and fro school it is much healthier. - ray76, Dec 28, 2015
Haha! Yes, I agree, Ray. I used to ride my bike to school every day. - Winkfish, Dec 29, 2015

You can say this, but it´s more common at least in Mexico to say "Voy a pasar por mi hijo ....."
