There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

No me gusta nada, dejar mis cosas al azar, quisiera organizar mi vida a mi manera, pero generalmente eso no es fácil.

I do not like to leave my things to chance, I should like to organize my life my way, but usually that's not easy.

What happens, happens. We can control some things and are not surprised by the consequences. When good or bad things happen unexpectedly we can say it is by chance. I personally do not think that what happens to me is by chance. I don’t care to explain that further, because I have evidence in my life that it is true.

The most important question in Spain is not which party has won the General Election, but rather who has won the Christmas Lottery. In order to find this out the whole country grinds to a halt on the 22nd . Afterwards everybody loses interest because the chance is gone and next year we can choose some random numbers and keep hoping. enter image description here

A Einstein, no le gustaba que la física cuántica diga que cosas pueden suceder al azar y él dedicó mucho esfuerzo para encontrar variables ocultas que controlaran todo, pero sin éxito, y más tarde Bell mostró que no es posible tener variable ocultos ocultas a menos que uno permite permita que se transmita la información o instantáneamente (lo que excedería la velocidad de luz) o a través del tiempo (al pasado).

Einstein did not like that quantum physics said that things could happen at random and he dedicated a lot of effort to finding hidden variables that would control everything, but without success, and later Bell showed that it is not possible to have hidden variables unless one allows information to be transmitted either instantaneously (which would exceed the speed of light) or across time (to the past).

There are people who argue that quantum randomness is what allows for free will- if the universe were entirely deterministic it would be playing out a pre-programmed plan. ;) - bosquederoble, Dec 24, 2015
I can understand that. - rac1, Dec 24, 2015
There has to be some entropy :-)! - Jraider, Dec 24, 2015
Entropy rules! - bosquederoble, Dec 24, 2015
..variables ocultas..uno permita..if you omitted the first 'o' it would be more common since people don't use it too much although it is correct of course 'la información instantáneamente o..' - Pablo064, Dec 24, 2015
Thanks Pablo. A little embarrassing thas I put variables ocultas the first time I used it and ocultos the second. :) - bosquederoble, Dec 24, 2015

Joshua: No tengo mucha suerte con los juegos de azar.

Alberto: Por eso nunca te veo jugar a aquellos.

Joshua: I don’t have much luck with the games of chance.

Alberto: That’s why I never see you play those.

En España hay un juego de azar llamado la Lotería de Navidad que practicamente todo el mundo juega. Eliges un número, pero es muy costoso así que generalmente se compra un décimo del número. Pues, no dices "compré un boleto" sino "compré un décimo."

In Spain there is a game of chance called the Lotería de Navidad that practically everyone plays. You choose a number, but it´s quite expensive so generally you buy a tenth share of a number. So you don´t say, "I bought a ticket", you say "I bought a tenth (décimo)".

Then if you win, you get a tenth, before or after taxes? jejeje - rac1, Dec 25, 2015
exactly, you get a tenth, before taxes. - mstivers, Dec 25, 2015
Es verdad. Groups of neighbours or families or work mates tend to buy one or more tickets together. - annierats, Dec 25, 2015

Si planeamos un picnic para el día de la Navidad en Melbourne, es un juego de azar. Aunque es el verano, el clima es estupendamente variable. Este año el día hacía mucho calor y nuestro picnic fue bien, pero el el día siguente, el 26, el temperatura está viente grados menos y hay mucha llovia.

If we plan a picnic for Christmas Day in Melbourne, it is a game of chance. Although it is summer, the weather is famously variable. This year the day was very hot and our picnic went well, but the day after, the 26th, the temperature is twenty degrees less and there is a lot of rain.
