Sara, we say " 'to' (not 2) use estar. " People are learning English on this site, too and all of us who are English natives have a responsibility to write correct English without using text talk (speech) Thank you :) - FELIZ77, Dec 20, 2015

In classic Spanish, especially in Spain, you use ser with feliz and not estar.

Ser feliz means I am happy by nature, I am a happy person.

In that outlook, you use estar contento to imply the state of being happy.

In parts of Latin America it is becoming/has become acceptable to use estar with feliz to imply the state. I am not sure people from Spain have accepted this yet.

Here is a video of someone saying feliz:

A person from most parts of Spain will typically use a different z than a Latin American (even though there will be differences between them), and I think there are places that will drop the ending sound (Carribean I think)

I didn't know this - living in the US I don't have much exposure to "Spanish" Spanish. -- I hear "feliz" all the time with estar from my Latin American friends. -- Thank you for the info Bosque! - 00353cbe, Dec 20, 2015

The verb "ser' is used in Spanish to talk about characterístics: Soy feliz = I am happy (I am a happy kind of person)

The verb estar is used for mental and emotional states or conditions: Estoy feliz = I am happy ( I am feeling happy now)

I will add a link to show how to pronounce the word feliz: enter link description here

I hope this helps smile
