Hi.

It would be helpful if you completed your profile, to give us an idea of your English and Spanish abilities. For example, if you were an advanced speaker of both languages, I might draw a parallel to "Se me rompió el vaso," but if you were a Spanish beginner, I would not do so.

I myself am not an advanced Spanish speaker, but to me, the expression "Se te salió lo español" suggests something along the lines of "The Spanish in you really came out."

se salió = it left
te = from you
lo español = that which is Spanish

Perhaps someone with a better understanding of Spanish will chime in.

I think as jtaniel, but with a little tip. I would never say the sentence:

Se te salió lo español

I would say:

Te salió lo español

The use of se in this sentence is not correct in Spain. It sounds Mexican or similar.

In Chile we say both, as they are a bit different. - chileno, Dec 16, 2015
"Salir" in this context means something like "to appear", which can happen slowly or suddenly. I see no problem with "Se" if the action is sudden / unexpected - 005faa61, Dec 16, 2015

As you can see, you have two helpful answers.

If you look at their profiles you can see their levels of Spanish and English. Sometimes an answer from a native Spanish speaker has more weight, but they both gave the same translation whilst txusta gave information about use in Spain.

Please add to your profile your level of Spanish and English. We have all assumed your English is stronger than your Spanish and answered in English. Your country of location can help - I'm in the UK so tend to British phrases and spelling whereas I know more Spanish phrases from Spain.

Please try and add proper capitals - I know it can be awkward on a phone, but it genuinely helps the many people on the forum who do not have English as a first language.

Finally, if you need to add accents to Spanish at the bottom of where you answer are all the symbols. For example it seems likely you were talking about 'salió' because first person present is 'salgo'

If you decide to add new accents etc you can do it as an edit.
