If you say "cómo está" it changes the meaning. What I would answer if they asked me "¿cómo está tu mamá?" would be: "Ella está bien." (She is fine.)

If they ask me "¿cómo es tu mamá?" I would answer: "Mi mamá es rubia y tiene ojos azules. No es muy alta. Le gusta usar ropa colorida. Es una persona muy graciosa." (My mom has fair hair and blue eyes. She isn't very tall. She likes wearing colorful clothes. She's a funny person.)

Hello Xo-kiya, This means how is your mother, but you can write this in a different way; ¿Cómo está tu mama? this sounds better, to use está, you know

Hope I helped!

I am sorry, but this is not correct, Mark! Please read Mariifer's post She is a native...and she has written an execllent answer! I would have written a post myself had she not written one just to clarify the situation. This does not mean how is your mother - FELIZ77, Dec 15, 2015
It means, What is your mother like? - FELIZ77, Dec 15, 2015
The use of ser and estar make a big difference - FELIZ77, Dec 15, 2015
