Talking in Fast Spanish

Question

Saturday I was with a friend eating pozole in a cocina corrida. The lady who ran the place was talking on the phone to a customer and having trouble understanding the girl on the phone. When he hung up she said. Ay, esta niña habla muy rápido. The lady is a native of Hidalgo, not La Paz. This is the second time that I have had a mainland Mexican tell me that Paceños talk fast.

So Winkfish I would love you to solve this problem. How to slow down live conversation to say .75X.

¡Jejeje! Just ask them "Por favor,no entiendo. Hable (habla-fam.) más despacio." That will get them down at least 10%. I'll let Wink go for the other 65%.

I always use a bit of humor to ask people to slow down. I'll chuckle and say something like:

Perdón pero mis oidos no eschuchan tan rápido, ¿puede hablar un poquito más despacio?
