If you did use accents and proper capitalization and punctuation, please do that here as well so we can see if what you put in is truly correct. What you posted is not correct capitalization, accents, or punctuation. - Winkfish, Dec 11, 2015
Está, línea, años, una actividad, apartamento---those are are what stand out to me right now. It might be helpful to see what the exercise is asking and the starting point. :) - bosquederoble, Dec 11, 2015
That is of course neglecting the capitalization issues that Winkfish notes. :) - bosquederoble, Dec 11, 2015
I did use the accents on the website (schoolology) and the questions were cuanto tiempo hace que participas en una actividad extracurricular? and cuanto tiempo hace que vives en tu casa o tu apartmento? - windowman, Dec 11, 2015
The things I noted are really all I see. Do keep in mind it is apartamento not apartmento as I noted above- you have spelling errors beyond the accents. :) - bosquederoble, Dec 11, 2015
"Un," not "uno." - AnnRon, Dec 11, 2015
una, actividad is feminine, but I missed the meses that Mardle pointed out. (I am sure she tries for an accent that would distinguish that, I pronounce s and c the same). :( - bosquederoble, Dec 11, 2015
Oh, right. Sorry. Still, not "uno." - AnnRon, Dec 12, 2015

Welcome to the forum. Can you add your level of Spanish and English? This helps us tailor answers.

I find it difficult to work out the tenses you have used without the accents. When you compose an answer, if your keyboard doesn't have Spanish accents there are accents you can click on below your question.

Is schoolology a site your teacher has asked you to use to check your answers informally?

Meces should be meses. It may just be typing errors which have caused your answer to be rejected.

What question were you asked about Rodolfo?

By the way, your answers do not have to be true just written in good Spanish, so if you live in an apartment but cannot spell it just use 'casa' Here is a lesson from this site, which should help:

hacer with expressions

May I go ahead and give the 'whole enchilada?" we have his attempt. I can give the corrections. - Daniela2041, Dec 12, 2015
You need to look at his second post that I asked him to add to this, but if you want to help, fine. - Mardle, Dec 12, 2015

Hello Windowman,

Welcome to the SpanishDict forum smile

Did they tell you that the sentences were not correctly written? It could be that you have not written (formed) or copied down the sentences correctly! What do you think?

This is how you gave it to us above:

The website I am using says the sentences "Hace Cuarenta minutos que Rodolfo esta en linea." " hace muchos anos que participo en uno actividad extracurricular." and hace ocho meces que vivo en mi apartmento'' are wrong. can you tell me what could be wrong. I used accents on the right words.Cuanto tiempo hace que participas en una actividad extracurricular? and cuanto tiempo hace que vives en tu casa o tu apartmento?

These three sentences should instead be written as:

1"Hace cuarenta minutos que Rodolfo está en línea."

2.¿Hace muchos años que participas en una actividad extracurricular?

You must learn to write this word años correctly, or you could be laughed at in some social circles by teenagers/young adults, and it would be considered rude / bad Spanish by others to omit the accent! Infact, it does not have the meaning in without the accent! Look up this word in a good English SpanishDictionary! wink

and

3 ¿Cuánto tiempo hace que vives en tu casa o tu apartamento?

All questions in Spanish should be written correctly, with a inverted question mark at the beginning of a sentence and a normal one at the end! You did not include any interrogation/ question marks in your original work!

Do you understand what these three sentences mean?

The authors of an excellent resource book on verbs called 'Barrons 501 Spanish Verbs' (7th edition) when talking about how the present indicative is used,

say (f):

"An action or state of being that occurred in the past and continues up to the present. In Spanish, this is an idiomatic use of the present tense of a verb with hace, which is also in the present. Example: Hace tres horas que miro la televisión. I have been watching television for three hours.

I strongly suggest/recommend that you:

1.Take a look at the SpanishDict grammar section, paying particular attention to where and how natives correctly write their accents in Spanish! wink

2.Watch the teaching videos created by Paralee: they are a series of mini-videos covering a range of different topics designed to help people learn and improve their Spanish! They are completely free! wink

I hope this helps smile
