Question

descuidar ( dehs-kwee-dahr' )

verb ( to neglect; to not worry )

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Examples:

1: Descuidé la huerta la semana pasada y la mitad de la cosecha terminó en el suelo.

I neglected the orchard last week and half the harvest ended up on the ground.

2: ¡Chin! Se me olvidó pagar la renta. - Descuida, este mes me toca a mí.

Darn! I forgot to pay the rent. - Don't worry; it's my turn to pay this month.

He pasado mucho tiempo hoy en el hospital veterinario con un perro que se le había cortado un vaso sanguineo de la pata, pero al fin hemos salido del hospital , Whiskey, la perra, y yo. Whiskey con un vendaje y un collar veterinario puestos, yo con unas instrucciones como cuidar la herida y una alegre despedida de parte del veterinario - Adios,y descuida, nosotros la hemos cosido bien, no te preocupes.

La verdad es que siempre descuido mi jardín durante el otoño, porque hace mal tiempo y tengo que hacer preparaciones para los días festivos, y por eso siempre tengo que hacer mucho allí en enero y febrero, pero como tenemos una boda en febrero sería será muy difícil este año.

The truth is that I always neglect my garden during fall, because the weather is bad and I have to make preparations for the holidays, and so I always have to do a lot there in January and February, but as we are having a wedding in February it will be very difficult this year.

De joven, Juan no se dió cuenta de la importancia de la educación. Descuidó sus estudios y ahora no puede encontrar un buen trabajo. A menudo está parado.

When he was young, Juan did not realise the importance of education. He neglected his studies and now he can't find a good job. Often he is unemployed.
