Does "de base" mean "basically"?

Does "de base" mean "basically"?

Hola,

I came across this sentence today, in some text about a company and what they're doing:

"De base, en ella desarrollamos un nuevo producto: una fibra dietaria para..."

When starting a sentence with "De base", is that like the English "basically", as in "Basically, we creating a new product..."?

In the dictionary on this site "de base" is translated as "basic; fundamental", so I wasn't sure if it would also mean "basically" too.

Any help much appreciated!

Muchas gracias, Rangi

EDIT - Adding full paragraph for context:

I lack the surrounding context but I would wonder if it is more like:

We developed a new product using it as a base.

(As a base/foundation or from a fundamental level, from the ground up), (on it) we developed a new product.

This is just conjecture, but since you have not received any other input I thought I would put this out there to stir up some thoughts.

Thank you very much for your reply. I've added the full paragraph to the question to provide more context. - Rangi, Dec 1, 2015
I think ella refers to esta empresa- from grass-roots/from basics, in it (the company) we developed a new product. I could be wrong, but that is my best guess. :) - bosquederoble, Dec 1, 2015
Ah yes of course, that makes a lot of sense, thank you very much for your help! :-) - Rangi, Dec 1, 2015

I would say that here it means "to begin with/for starters"

Does it go on describing more benefits?

Hello Rangi

Welcome to the SpanishDict forum smile

I was trying to find the specific entry in my Oxford Spanish Dictionary (app):

base 1 feminine de base ‹planteamiento/error› fundamental, basic; ‹militante› rank-and-file (before n), ordinary (before n);

I have succeeded in cutting and pasting the specific entry related only to de base

The usual words in Spanish meaning basically, in a general sense are básicamente and fundamentalmente so I was quite surprised to find that de base can mean basic. I was expecting it to mean 'from scratch' as in to make something from scratch

I hope this helps smile

I think from scratch is a good option. :) - bosquederoble, Dec 1, 2015
From the bottom up might be good too. :) - bosquederoble, Dec 1, 2015
That is very helpful and I have a much better understanding now, thanks! - Rangi, Dec 2, 2015
