There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

If you stand in front of the Pyramid of Kukulkan and look down, you'll notice some fascinating carvings.

2: Tenemos que caminar abajo para llegar al campamento.

We have to walk downward to reach the campsite.

cada día. My house is on top of the hill. I have to go downhill and uphill daily.

Al llegar los gladiadores al momento final del triunfo preguntaban al público si debían matar al vencido o no, el cual previamente había pedido clemencia levantando la mano. Si los espectadores entendían que merecía el perdón extendían el brazo y cerraban el puño escondiendo el pulgar. Mientras que el pulgar hacia abajo significaba muerte.

When the gladiators were arriving to the moment of triumph asked the public whether to kill the vanquished or not, who had previously appealed for clemency raising hands. If viewers understand that they deserved forgiveness they extended their arm and closed fist thumb hiding. While the thumbs down meant death.

Como no podía pensar en nada que escribir, fui al traductor e introduje abajo y debajo. Resulta que ya voy a esconderme debajo de la mesa, boca abajo porque estoy desmasiado confusa para escribir una frase// improved version, gracias a Pablo :' esto terminó conmigo yendo a esconderme debajo de la mesa'

As I couldn't think of anything to write, I went to the translator and put in ' abajo' and ' ' debajo' . This ended up with me going to hide under the table, face down, because I'm too confused to write a sentence.

Si alguien vierte algo en un río, puede afectar a todos los que viven abajo, aunque los que viven más abajo pueden esperar que otras fuentes de agua diluir diluyan los contaminantes.

If someone dumps something in a river, it can affect everyone that lives downstream, even though those that live further downstream can hope that other sources of water dilute the contaminants.

Si sufres de acrofobia (temor a las alturas), no mires hacia abajo desde un sitio elevado.

If you suffer from acrophobia (fear of heights), don't look down from a high place.
