In regards to the usage of "Que tal", does this require a response such as; I'm fine..etc.?

Muy bien, gracias, is the straightforward reply and as Annie says it is polite to ask how they are.

You could also say 'genial' or if your feeling out of sorts 'asi, asi' [so, so] The last two answers are to someone who is interested in how you feel ie a friend.

Welcome to the forum. Can you add your level of English and Spanish to your profile as it helps anyone answering your questions or reading your answer.

Where do they say asi asi? I think that might be a regional thing. I've never heard that before, I'd say más o menos if I wanted to say so so. - Gabo77, Nov 27, 2015
I've forgotten who told me but it is more likely to be Spain. - Mardle, Nov 27, 2015
