Are there short forms for "izquierda" and "derecha?"

Are there short forms for "izquierda" and "derecha?"

In English high frequency words tend to be short. The same is probably true in Spanish, but there are a few notable exceptions, for example "Izquierda" and "Derecha." Given their frequent usage, I was wondering if shortened forms of these words exist in written and spoken form, and if so, are they commonly used?

I don't think there are any. But let's make some up. How about "izqui" and "dere". I have always hated derecha/derecho...right/straight. Time we fix that problem.

Who's with me.

Sounds good to me. Now we just have to convince the whole of the Spanish speaking world, or at least half of them. - jellonz, Nov 26, 2015
Quite a few Americans use Roscoe and Louie ("Hang a Louie at the next corner"). How about Inez and Diego? - jtaniel, Nov 27, 2015
I am not aware of any recognised and accepted abbrev's lol I would have thought that derecha would be shortened to der or dcha and Izquierda to izqa I would be interested to hear what the natives like Dani have to say about this matter! :) - FELIZ77, Nov 27, 2015
I like izqua and decha. They have my vote. And no "la," so just "a izqua" and "a decha." - Winkfish, Nov 27, 2015
How about slniestra y diestra, (left and right respectively) these are good Spanish words for left and right--not used very much however. - Daniela2041, Nov 27, 2015
@ Wink. I definitely don't like your suggestions. You get no heart this time. So there! - Daniela2041, Nov 27, 2015
I can still smile at you though. :) - Daniela2041, Nov 27, 2015
Awe, Dani! Why don't you like my idea? And no heart to boot! Boy, this really is black Friday! ;-) - Winkfish, Nov 27, 2015
siniestra and diestra are left and right handed. Siniestra is also sinister so too close to right/straight of derecha/derecho - gringojrf, Nov 27, 2015
I'll jump onboard with Winkfish. izqua and decha. Only a hundred million or so more needed then we can start trying to bribe the RAE. - gringojrf, Nov 27, 2015
"Only a hundred million or so more.." Of what currency? ;-) - Winkfish, Nov 27, 2015
@gringo. Left handed is "zurdo" . Check your dictionary. I am right on this. Siniestro/a can also mean "sinister" . La "diestra" (note the "la") can also mean the "right hand" --not handed. If you real a lot of classic literature you see these terms used - Daniela2041, Nov 27, 2015
I bow to you superior knowledge, Dani. - gringojrf, Nov 27, 2015
"read" not "real" Don't argue with the FYS!! :) - Daniela2041, Nov 27, 2015
Still no heart, Dani? :-( - Winkfish, Nov 27, 2015
OK, Wink. :) have a couple on me. ♥♥ - Daniela2041, Nov 27, 2015
Ahhh! All is right with the world now! Thank you sweet Daniela! xx ;-) - Winkfish, Nov 28, 2015

Yay!!! This gets my vote! - Daniela2041, Nov 27, 2015
That is a shame. I just feel sorry for Spanish speaking army drill masters: "Izquierda! Derecha! Izquierda! Derecha! Izquierda ..." And just imagine the quick march :) - jellonz, Nov 27, 2015
