There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Examples:

1: ¡Esto es un lío! Definitivamente no llegaremos a tiempo al aeropuerto.

This is a mess! We definitely won't get to the airport on time.

2: Julio se va a meter en un lío si sigue chismeando así.

Julio is going to get himself into trouble if he keeps gossiping like that.

Hoy es el día internacional contra la violencia de género. Es triste que todavía necesitamos un día como este, es triste que las víctimas de la violencia de género muchas veces prefieren sufrir calladas porque tienen vergüenza por estar liadas con hombres agresivos con la vida hecha un lío y sus hijos sufriendo también.

Today is the International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women. It's sad that we still need ta day like this, it's sad that the victims of sex-offences often prefer to suffer in silence because they are ashamed to be involved with aggressive men, of the mess their lives have become and of having their children suffer as well.

Qué lío va a haber en mi casa mañana, debido a que mi hija invitó a la familia entera de su novio para el Día de Acción de Gracias, y por eso mi esposa mi me dijo que podría usar la cocina por mí mismo esta mañana para preparar mis contribuciones a la comida, pero mientras estaba cortando una calabaza ella decidió agarrar algo que estaba delante de mí mío y me corté mi el dedo, y luego me metí en un lío por decir que no debería usar un cuchillo cuando ella está en la cocina.

What a mess there is going to be in my house tomorrow, because my daughter invited her fiancée's entire family for Thanksgiving, and so my wife told me that I could use the kitchen by myself this morning to prepare my contributions to the meal, but while I was cutting a pumpkin she decided to grab something in front of me and I cut my finger, and then I got myself in trouble by saying that I should not use a knife when she is in the kitchen.
