How to use the gerund after verbs-help with grammar

Hi, I was just wondering how you would say "I relaxed by listening to music and playing on my phone" would it be "me relajé por escuchando música y jugando en mi teléfono"

I read that the gerund isn't used after a verb which would mean that it would be "escuchar música" instead of "escuchando música"

Any help welcomed smile

What you read is correct for this case: "me relajé por escuchar música y jugar en mi teléfono".

But in other cases we can use gerund following a verb, ie:: La vi corriendo por la calle / Me quedé en casa escuchando música.

It could also be said: "Me relajé escuchando música y jugando en mi teléfono." - Santyy7, Nov 22, 2015

I think the gerund is used just like you would change the verb if you was talking about you he she it and so on, so, for example, just remove the ir end and put ando for ar verb and iendo for er and ir verbs.

However if your use "por" you should use the infinitive. - Daniela2041, Nov 22, 2015
