How do you say 8:34 in Spanish?

Question

I know this is super random but someone asked me what time my classes start and I told them and then they said say it in Spanish so I'm here to find out.

Son las ocho y treinta y cuatro de la mañana.

Some textbooks tell you that after the half hour you have to subtract from the next hour, like" It twenty six minutes to nine" ( but in reverse)

"Son las nueve menos veintiséis de la mañana" (It's nine minus twenty six in the morning.)
