"It was an (object)." Do I use "fue" or "era"?
Example: "I saw something. It was a table."
Would I say: "Vi algo. Fue una mesa." or "Era una mesa."? Edit: Or is it something completely different?

I would recommend using the translator tool on the site. However, as the table is still a table and does not suddenly stop being a table, it should be, "era" Descriptions in the past are generally given in the imperfect.
"Era una mesa." Imperfect is used for descriptions like this, which makes sense since it wasn't just a table for one moment.
