There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Nuestro país es uno de los mas atrasados en el dominio de idiomas, y cuando utilizamos los programas traductores , el resultado puede ser un poco extraño.

Our country is one of the most backward in the domain of languages and when we use translator programs, the result can be a little strange.

Sería bueno si podría mantener aún la menor ilusión de tener dominio de mi vida, pero supongo que pedir eso es pedir demasiado.

It would be good if I could maintain even a vestige of the illusion being in control of my life, but I suppose to ask that is to ask too much.

If it is true that mankind has dominion over the earth, why is he destroying her?

Lo que solía ser que los hombres tenían dominío de las mujeres y niños en su familia. El padre era el jefe de la casa y los demás tenían que hacer lo que les decía. Pero actualmente, si un hombre cree así, ¡va a tener muchas luchas!

It used to be that men had control over the women and children in their family. The father was the head of the house and the others had to do what he said. But these days, if a man thinks like that he is going to have a lot of fights!

Si sufres insomnio y no puedes dormir , te recomiendo que conjuegas verbos españoles hasta que te quedes dormido. Al menos vas a ganar dominio de los verbos mas rápido incluso si que no te duermes. .

If you're an insomniac and can't sleep I recommend that you conjugate Spanish verbs until falling asleep. At least you will become competent with the verbs more quickly, even if you don't fall asleep.

Al entrar al agua el cerdito pequeño se acordó que apenas sabía nadar. Se le olvidó el canto de las sirenas porque para sobrevivir tenía que ganar dominio del arte de la natación pero quizás ya era tarde. Luchó por respirar.

As he hit the water the youngest piglet remembered that he hardly knew how to swim. He forgot the song of the sirens because in order to survive he had to master the art of swimming, but maybe it was too late. He gasped for breath.
