I was wondering if these were correct? They all have to be in the IMPERFECT verb tense. (I am in Spanish III, just FYI)

The stuff in bold is my answer to the question

  1. Juan (was twenty years old) tenía veinte años.

  2. Los trabajadores (used to leave) salían a las cinco.

  3. (It was four o'clock) Era cuatro de la tarde.

  4. (There was) Había un coche en la esquina.

  5. Tú siempre (would call) llamabas a tus padres.

  6. (It was) Era un día hermoso de junio.

  7. Yo (was speaking) hablaba de ese problema.

  8. Ella (thought) creía mucho en su novio.

  9. (They were studying) Ellos estaban estudiar en su cuarto.

  10. Yo (used to eat) comías en la cafetería.

íGracias por su ayuda!

Although I assume your English is fluent and Spanish between beginner and intermediate it is helpful if you add it to your profile. So far as your answers are concerned were you given the verbs to use? For example in some circumstances on number 2 you could use solían salir but your answer also works. 3, 9 and 10 are wrong. 10 is because you have made a minor mistake.

Compare 7 and 9 and you should be able to work it out. So far as 3 is concerned how would you say it is 4 o'clock now change it to the imperfect.

Nice coaching without supplying the answers. - AnnRon, Nov 11, 2015
I will add my level to my profile now! I fixed number ten by dropping the s after "comía," but I am still not sure what you mean about 3 and 9. For three, would it instead be "Era las cuatro de la tarde?" And number 10 ...I don't know. - 00856ad4, Nov 11, 2015
Son las cuatro eg it is plural in Spanish. Eran. They were studying = imperfect of estudiar - Mardle, Nov 11, 2015
Oh. I thought I couldn't do "Ellos estaban estudiaban en su cuarto" because it has two conjugated terms back to back. - 00856ad4, Nov 11, 2015
It should be Ellos estudiaban - no estaban! - Mardle, Nov 11, 2015
You are making me doubt now - I suppose it could depend on context whether you use estar + gerund. - Mardle, Nov 11, 2015
i think I got it figured out now...thank you for all your help! - 00856ad4, Nov 11, 2015
