what's the different between (se vuelva) and (convertir)?

I am confused about the way in which I can use those words, can you please help me guys?

I am on my tablet and cannot add links very easily at the moment. Convertirse is usually followed by en. There are a whole group of verbs of change. Some are interchangeable.

We discussed ponerse, volverse, hacerse, quedarse, llegar a ser, convertirse en. The main advice we were given was not to rely on rules but learn phrases such as 'ponerse calvo' become bald

In some few cases they can be used interchangably,ie: La celebración de quinceañera es para la niña que se convierte en (se vuelve) señorita.

But mostly they are used completely differently, ie: Se volvió loco (se puso loco) / Ahora es buen tiempo para convertir dólares a pesos (...cambiar dólares .....).

I don´t know of any rule for these usages except memorization.

I'm not a native speaker and may be completely wrong but from my perspective volverse is a gradual almost unconscious change. Convertir is a purposeful change. Catalyst and reaction.

By the way, there are other ways to say change or to become as well. Ponerse is one.
